1933 R319 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth PSA EX 5

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $13,200

Graded EX 5 by PSA (submitted by REA). Extremely attractive Excellent condition example of the ideal classic Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the Babe in his classic follow-through batting pose. Goudey must have also realized this was the most classic pose as, of all the cards in the set, this is the card it chose to double print when replacing the missing card #106 during production. This continues to be one of Ruth's most popular and recognizable baseball cards. Because of being double-printed by Goudey (there were exactly twice as many Ruth #144s printed as any other card in the same series), this card also represents the best value among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set. This card has been consigned by a pioneer collector who did most of his collecting during the 1960s and 1970s with a very keen focus on condition and eye-appeal. This is a very attractive example with brilliant colors, no creases, and outstanding centering. The corners show slight, even wear, but still remain square. Crisp and clean, both front and back, with an extremely boldly printed reverse. This is a very impressive card with much stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the assigned grade. A worthy addition to any 1933 Goudey, Babe Ruth, or classic-card collection. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000++. SOLD FOR $13,200
