1888 N321 S. F. Hess Creole California League Henry Moore - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,560
Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA). Extremely rare sample card of Henry Moore from the N321 S. F. Hess California League series. Featuring full-color drawings on the front, the forty-card N321 series depicts minor leaguers from the California League and is one of the few color issues of the nineteenth century. The player name and position is printed along the top border, with "California League" arced over the player image and advertising for S. F. Hess & Co's. Creole Cigarettes along the bottom border. During the past ten years, we have only offered four examples from this rare issue! The offered card displays incredibly vibrant colors and four strong corners, with a slight tilt to the image. A very faint horizontal crease accounts for the modest assigned grade despite a far better appearance. The blank reverse is entirely clean, with a faint wet sheet transfer visible. This is a superb example of one of nineteenth-century baseball-card collecting's most elusive sample cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,560
