1915 T214 Victory Tobacco Jack Warhop - Previously Uncataloged!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,040

Presented is an outstanding, previously uncataloged T214 Victory Tobacco example of Jack Warhop of the New York Highlanders. This set is sometimes mistaken for the T206 White Border set and is closely related, sharing the same designs. The 1915 T214 Victory set, issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, is one of the great legendary rarities of tobacco-card collecting. Even a sample card from this set is a challenge to find. Victory Tobacco is one of the few sets which features players from the Federal League, in addition to players from the Major Leagues. This is a particularly attractive card in all respects, and simply superior to what is normally found for Victory Tobacco. Graded VG 40 by SGC (submitted by REA), it is easy to see that this is a magnificent T214 example in far better condition than normally encountered. Victory Tobacco cards have a glossy coated surface which is very susceptible to creasing. This card displays a few light creases (most noticeable from the reverse), vibrant colors, and light, even wear on the corners. The reverse is clean with a bold, crisp advertisement, ideal qualities for a sample of this rare issue, as the back is so important. T214 Victory Tobacco cards are rare in any grade, let alone such an exceptionally strong and attractive example of a previously uncataloged subject. This is a tremendous rarity that would be a significant addition to any T214 Victory Tobacco, advanced prewar, or type-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,040
