1912-1913 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 2) Walter Johnson
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $3,000
Extremely rare sample card of 1912-1913 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 2) featuring Hall of Famer Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators. T215 Red Cross is one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked issues. Very similar in design and borrowing images from the T206 set, T215 Red Cross cards are believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. The T215 of Johnson is especially desirable as it shares the same image with his T206 card, which is considered by many to be one of his most classic poses. The offered example presents with bold colors, light wear at the corners, and a flawless image of Johnson. It is modestly graded POOR 10 by SGC (submitted by REA) due to a small area of paper loss on the reverse (not affecting any of the important advertising text). The card otherwise presents as Vg. This is a very desirable Hall of Fame sample from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest sets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $3,000
