Extremely Rare 1962 Salada-Junket Coin #53b Brandt - Orioles Variation
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,920
Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Bright, fresh, and clean, both front and back. The extremely scarce 1962 Salada-Junket Coin of Jackie Brandt with “Orioles” variation is one of the three ultra rare variations in the 1962 Salada-Junket Coins set which appear on virtually every Salada Coins want list and since 1962 have kept almost all collectors from ever completing their sets. Brandt’s Salada Coin normally features him with the team designation spelled “Oriole” with no letter “s” at the end. Salada changed the spelling of the team designation on his coin, but the print run for the spelling-change coin was obviously extremely low. PSA has graded only fifteen examples of this ultra rare variation out of a total of 12,602 coins evaluated to date. We have only ever handled one other example of this variation; an ungraded example from the Charlie Conlon Collection appeared as Lot #761 in REA's 2011 auction, realizing $2,644. Two other coins in the Salada Coins set, Williams (name on right variation) and Bailey (“C” level with ear variation), share this same degree of extreme rarity due to a similar typographic change in the Salada set. Incredibly, we are offering all three coins in this auction. Each comes to us from an extremely advanced old-time collection. This is a very highly graded example of one of the great rarities of the Salada-Junket Coins set. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,920
