1952 Num Num Cleveland Indians Bob Kennedy Short Print
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
Graded EX 5 by PSA. Presented is a very attractive example of #16 Bob Kennedy from the 1952 Num Num Cleveland Indians set. Kennedy has long been recognized as one of regional-card collecting's most elusive rarities. In the early days of the organized hobby, #16 Kennedy was widely recognized as one of the great rarities in all of card collecting, a modern-day equivalent of Wagner, Plank, or Lajoie. Distributed regionally with packages of snacks produced by Num Num Foods of Cleveland, the set features members of the Cleveland Indians exclusively. Each black-and-white card measures 3.5 x 5.5 inches with the tab intact and features a posed portrait or action image of the player. The set, which is complete at twenty cards, was designed with a one-inch tab at the bottom of each card featuring the card number and player name along with details about the company's prize offer of an autographed baseball in exchange for a complete set of twenty tabs. This offer undoubtedly explains the short-printing of the #16 Kennedy card (this card was intentionally made rare by Num Num to avoid giving away too many costly prizes) and explains why no Kennedys have been found with a tab (anyone who actually obtained one was able to finally finish their set, and naturally cut the tab as the instructions dictated, along with others, to redeem the autographed ball prize). Bright and clean, the card displays near-perfect centering, light touches of wear at the corners, and is free of any creases or wrinkles. Clean reverse. This is an outstanding example of the key card from this rare regional-card food issue. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
