Circa 1940 Mel Ott Signed Photo

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840

Vintage news photo of Hall of Fame outfielder Mel Ott, signed by Ott in the upper left corner. Ott has personalized the photo in purple fountain pen, "To Anita/Best Wishes/Mel Ott," with both the text and signature grading "7." A Daily News copyright stamp appears on the reverse. Ott is pictured in uniform, as a member of the Giants, sitting in the dugout. Although the photo is not dated, the Giants uniform depicted here was a one-year style only used by the club in 1940. Ott's signature is the rarest of all 500 Home Run Club members due to his early passing in 1958 at the age of forty-nine. The photo (8 x 10 inches) displays a single tack hole in each corner, light creasing, and both adhesive residue and surface paper loss on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album. In Very Good condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $840
