1953 Hank Aaron Original Photo - PSA/DNA Type 1
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,680
Original photo of Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Aaron taken in 1953, one year prior to his major league debut with the Milwaukee Braves. Certified by PSA/DNA as an "Original Type 1 Photograph." While at first glance this looks like Aaron posing as a member of the Milwaukee Braves, the "J" on his cap, not to mention his extremely youthful appearance, actually dates it to his 1953 season with the Jacksonville Braves, a class A minor-league affiliate of Milwaukee and member of the South Atlantic League. This is certainly the earliest original Type 1 photo of Aaron we have ever offered and we cannot recall seeing another that would predate it. Aaron made sure that 1953 was his final season in the minors by batting .362 with 22 home runs for Jacksonville. The following spring an injury to outfielder Bobby Thomson resulted in Aaron securing a starting spot on the Braves roster and the rest, as they say, is history. The photo (6.5 x 8.5 inches) displays a few light surface wrinkles and minor adhesive residue on the reverse. Excellent condition overall. LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,680
