1928 Official American League (Barnard) Ball in Original Unopened Box

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $7,200

Official American League (Barnard) ball, dating from the 1928 season, sealed in its original unopened box. Complete with its original, unbroken red-paper sleeve. Based upon the box design, the illustration of the ball upon the box, and the fact that Barnard's facsimile signature appears on the red-paper sleeve, this ball can be definitively dated to the one-year manufacturing period of 1928. This is perhaps the finest example we have ever seen of an unopened American League (Barnard) ball. Aside from some light staining along the underside of the box, it remains in Excellent to Mint condition. The ball itself is presumably in Mint condition, as the box has never been opened. Early Major League balls in original boxes are extremely desirable to many different types of collectors, and are extremely difficult to find, in our opinion even more so than most advanced collectors realize. This is a particularly impressive example. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $7,200
