2001 Cuban "Certificate of Recognition" Signed by Fidel Castro and Jimmy Carter

"Certificate of Recognition," issued by the Cuban government in 2001, signed by Fidel Castro and Jimmy Carter. Castro officially signed the document as President of Cuba. The signature of Carter was added at a later date. Castro's signature (grading "10") has been boldly scripted in blue marker, while Carter has signed the piece in black marker (grading "10") directly above Castro's signature. The text of this large-format certificate, which is written in Spanish, translates in English to "Given to: Mayeoys G. Roquelvidao/For instituting the youth vanguard that participated in the Educational and Social Revolution which is being carried out by our people, and for graduating in the Second Intensive Course of Social Workers." The smaller text along the base translates as "Given in the city of Havana on July 31, 2001/Year of the Victorious Revolution in the New Millennium." The certificate (11 x 16 inches) is in apparent Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 19.5 x 27 inches. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
