1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie SGC EX 60

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,800

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Magnificent EX example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card! One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. This striking example has four square corners with just light touches of wear, vibrant colors, and centering slightly to the left (there is a very slight natural diamond cut to the card). Extremely clean with no distracting print lines as are so commonly found with this card. The back is also extremely clean, with no heavy wax wrapper or gum stains, which are often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. This is a very appealing example in a particularly desirable grade for a Mantle rookie card. This card always sells for a respectable sum since Mantle's rookie card is always in great demand in any condition (though, when we see what 1952 Topps Mantles sell for, we can't help but think that the 1951 Bowman Mantle is a card with potential for additional appreciation.) An exceptionally attractive example in Excellent condition is very difficult to find and arguably represents a particularly outstanding value for this all-time classic Mantle card. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $7,800
