1908 PC760 Rose Company Postcard Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $33,000

Presented is an extremely rare and exceptionally attractive example of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the PC760 Rose Postcard set, one of the rarest and most beautifully designed baseball-card sets ever produced. This is an amazing card! Only four Rose Postcard Ty Cobb examples have ever been graded by PSA and SGC combined. It is fascinating to note that the portrait used on this extraordinary card is the very same as that which appears on a number of other famous Cobb cards, including 1902 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet, 1910 E103 Williams Caramel, 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life, and the 1909-1911 T206 White Border red and green portrait cards. This is obviously an iconic and very popular pose! Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC due to a few tiny spots of green color added at the top two corners and in two spots in the green background. These are VERY hard to see and require close inspection. While the card ultimately would not grade numerically because of this, it otherwise presents as Vg to Vg-Ex, with a flawless portrait image, very light corner wear, and a faint lower right corner crease. The card has never been mailed and has no writing on its traditional postcard reverse. This is the first Rose postcard of Cobb that we can recall offering (at least during this century!). This is an extraordinary example of one of the key Hall of Famers from this beautiful and rare set, and one that would make an outstanding addition to any PC760 set, Hall of Fame type-card collection, or Ty Cobb player collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $33,000
