1939 R165 Gum, Inc. "War News Pictures" Rare High-Numbers Complete Set (#121-144) - Presented on Four Uncut Sheets!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $4,500

Presented here are the rare high-number cards (#121-144) from the classic 1939 R165 "War News Pictures" bubble-gum series issued by Gum, Inc. The twenty-four cards are ideally presented on four uncut sheets of six cards each. This is the only set of uncut sheets featuring these rare cards that we have ever seen. The "War News Pictures" set chronicles the extraordinary world events unfolding at this time, and the exceptional graphics and historically significant subject matter of this gum-card issue make it one of the all-time classics of nonsport sets from the 1930s. Each sheet presents beautifully with brilliant colors, flawless surfaces, and crisp images. Light corner wear is present on the sheets (common due to the size of each sheet, which measure 9-3/8 x 5 inches). One sheet (#133-135, 139-141) has a small one-inch tear extending from the top edge into the center card. The reverse of each sheet is fully printed, with heavy glue residue covering the entire surface of three of the four sheets (the sheet with #136-138, and 142-144 is entirely clean). A few small spots of paper loss are present on the reverse of the three sheets with glue residue. Such flaws are common on these types of sheets, which were once likely glued into sample books or affixed to proofing boards within the Gum, Inc., offices. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire all twenty-four rare high-number cards at one time in fascinating and extremely rare uncut form. Total: 4 uncut sheets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $4,500
