Helmar "R318" "Hey Batter" Collection (65) with Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Wagner, Gibson, Jackson, and Thorpe

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080

Collection of sixty-five "Hey Batter" cards, similar in style to the 1934-1936 R318 National Chicle Batter-Up issue, manufactured by the Helmar Brewing Company. These sepia-toned cards (which often include hues of blue, red, and yellow) are interesting because of their unusual die-cut design that allows for the top of the card to be folded over so that it can stand upright (leaving the top half of the player image vertical). This series, which began production in 2013 and is skip-numbered #1-307, is currently complete at 204 cards; however, new cards are still being produced (the new cards will incorporate the 103 numbers which have been skipped in the set). The production number for each of the sixty-five cards offered here was limited to just twenty-five total. Each card measures 2.25 x 3 inches. In keeping with Helmar's tradition, this set includes not only Hall of Fame and non Hall of Fame players, but also minor-league stars, Negro League stars, Japanese players, corporate-team players, umpires, and even a "Bustin' Babes & Larrapin Lou's" Barnstorming card! The collection is comprised of the following: 1 Bengough, 3 Rowe, 4 W. Johnson, 6 Berger, 7 Youngs, 10 Mathewson-Johnson, 13 Farrell (Ferrell), 16 E.Collins-Evers, 18 Ruth (Bethlehem Steel), 20 J. Gibson. As a point of reference, it should be noted that in sirraffles' most recent individual eBay auctions for the sixty-five cards in this collection, the cumulative sale total was in excess of $3,650. Like all of the Helmar issues, these cards were intentionally produced with a distressed look, with most having rounded corners and rubbed edges. Near Mint condition overall. Total: 65 cards.
