Circa 1875 Baseball Team CDV
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
Team CDV picturing an unidentified baseball club, circa 1875, posing together in a formal studio setting. All but two of the players are wearing classic bib-front jerseys depicting a large "W" on the front, with two players each holding a bat, and another, presumably the club's pitcher, holding a baseball. Like the majority of team and player CDVs, the only clue we have with regard to the team's identification is the photographer's credit stamp on the reverse that reads "Photographed b J. H. Rogers/Steens Pron Front/Washington, Pa." Given the photographer's location, it might be reasonable to assume that this photo depicts the Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (located in Washington, Pennsylvania), but more research would be needed to confirm that potential identification. The CDV (3.75 x 2.5 inches) appears to have a slight trim along the left border and there is a tiny area of paper loss on the reverse; it displays beautifully and otherwise remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $420
