Circa 1999 Roberto Clemente Southland Bronze Figurine - Never Issued! - One of Only a Few Examples Produced

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,080

Exceedingly rare Roberto Clemente bronze figurine produced by Southland Art Castings, circa 1999. The 7.5-inch-high bronze figure depicts Clemente in a batting pose and sits on a two-inch-high wooden base bearing a metal plaque with Clemente's name engraved upon it. A Southland label on the underside of the base lists its limitation number as "14/200." Despite the limitation number, this is one of only a few examples of this figurine ever produced because a lawsuit brought by one of the investors halted production of the pieces before they were even marketed to the public. Only a few samples had been made prior to the lawsuit, of which this is one. Our consignor obtained this figurine directly from a former owner of Southland Art Castings, who had it displayed in his personal collection for many years. This is easily the rarest of all Southland bronzes and, given Clemente's iconic status, one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Roberto Clemente, Pittsburgh Pirates, or baseball-figural collection. Mint condition. Height: 10 inches. Oval base: 7 x 5.25 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,080
