1966 Topps Complete Set (598)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,600
50% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a few better), 44% Ex, and 6% Vg to Vg-Ex. This is a very crisp set that at first glance appears considerably stronger than suggested by the technically accurate condition breakdown. After winning the Most Valuable Player award in 1965, Willie Mays was honored by Topps with its card #1 position in the 1966 set. The set is also well known for the scarcity of the high-number series, with many single-printed cards, in addition to being the only Topps set to feature Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays on the same card (#215). Six cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA and one by SGC. Keys: #1 Mays (EX-MT 6), 30 Rose (SGC NM+ 86), 50 Mantle (NM 7), 70 Yastrzemski (Ex), 72 Perez (Vg-Ex), 100 Koufax (Ex-Mt), 110 Banks (Ex-Mt+), 120 Killebrew (EX-MT 6), 125 Brock (NM 7), 126 Palmer RC (Ex), 160 Ford (Ex), 195 Morgan (Ex), 200 Mathews (trimmed, otherwise Ex-Mt), 215 NL Batting Ldrs (Ex), 254 Jenkins RC (Ex), 255 Stargell (Ex-Mt), 288 Sutton RC (Ex-Mt), 300 Clemente (Vg-Ex+), 310 F. Robinson (Ex), 320 Gibson (NM-MT 8), 365 Maris (Ex+), 390 B. Robinson (Ex), 410 Kaline (Vg), 500 Aaron (Ex), 526 Twins (Nr/Mt+), 530 Roberts (Ex-Mt), 535 Davis SP (Vg-Ex), 540 McLain (Ex), 550 McCovey (Ex+), 580 B. Williams (Ex-Mt+), 583 Tigers (trimmed, otherwise Ex-Mt), 590 Skowron (Nr/Mt+), and 598 Perry (EX-MT 6). This is a very attractive, fresh-looking set, filled with stars and Hall of Famers, dating from the heart of the 1960s. The SMR value for just the seven graded cards is $703. Total: 598 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,600
