1951 Bowman #305 Willie Mays Rookie

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,440

Presented is the rookie card of legendary Hall of Famer Willie Mays, one of the most important of all 1950s bubble-gum cards. In addition to being one of the two key cards of the 1951 Bowman set, Mays is part of the scarce high-number series of the set (#253-324). The offered example was modestly graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA) due to a heavy crease down the center that runs from top to bottom (when held horizontal as intended). Aside from the noted flaw, the card displays bright colors, flawless registration, light wear to the corners, and is centered to the bottom left. This is a very attractive low- to mid-grade example of the 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie, which has long been universally recognized as one of collecting's most iconic cards, especially among postwar cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,440
