1912 T227 Series of Champions Frank "Home Run" Baker PSA NM 7 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,600

Graded NM 7 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! This is a miracle card! Absolutely stunning, incredibly ultra high-grade example of Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker from the 1912 T227 "Series of Champions." Issued by Miners Extra and Honest Long Cut, T227 “Series of Champions” are unique in design, and have the look of “giant T206s.” There are only twenty-five cards in the set, including four ballplayers. This unbelievably high-grade example of Baker is perfectly clean both front and back, with striking colors, no stains, and near-perfect centering. The reverse features a biography of Baker and advertising for Honest Long Cut Tobacco. This card is in a far, far better state than usually found for this very condition-sensitive tobacco issue. This may, in part, be because T227s, which were packaged in tobacco pouches without protection from either tobacco or general handling, rarely survive in high grade. In fact, of the 518 T227 cards evaluated in the history of PSA, only two examples (of any player) have ever received a grade of Near Mint and none have graded higher! This is a simply tremendous world-class example of one of Baker's rarest and most unusual tobacco cards from this rare, uniquely designed, and, in our opinion, extremely overlooked tobacco issue. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $6,600
