1911 E94 George Close Candy Tommy Leach PSA NM 7 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,920

Graded NM 7 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level with none higher! Extremely high grade E94 example of Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tommy Leach. This is a gem of a card, perfectly clean front and back, with four strong corners, a brilliant image set against a bold red background, and near-perfect centering. The back has the checklist for the set. While at a glance E94s may be easily confused with other caramel-card sets of the era (E93 and E98 specifically), they are an entirely different set, even though they use many of the same subjects and poses. Of the three previously mentioned sets, E94s are the most difficult. The E94 caramel-card set is usually associated with the George Close Co. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Caramel cards, of course, are rarely found in high grade, making this an especially desirable sample card from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue, worthy of the finest E94 set, “E” card, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,920
