1911 T205 Gold Border Christy Mathewson SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,900

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Absolutely stunning, unbelievably high-grade Christy Mathewson card from the T205 Gold Borders, one of the most popular of all 1910-era tobacco issues. Only three examples grade higher out of 440 evaluated by SGC to date. This is a simply extraordinary example, literally one of the best in the world, of one of vintage baseball-card collecting's great classics. Any T205 Gold Border in this extraordinary condition would be extremely noteworthy, let alone an example of key Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. Crisp and clean, both front and back. The card displays only the slightest hint of white at the extreme tips of the corners, visible only under the closest inspection. The easily chipped gold borders are without virtually any white showing. This striking gem has flawless colors, near-perfect centering, and large full borders. The reverse of the card is also exceptionally bright and clean with crisp, bold red text. Advertising for Sweet Caporal on reverse. This is an amazing ultra high-grade T205 example of Christy Mathewson, one of baseball's greatest legends, from one of collecting's most classic and condition-sensitive sets. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $3,900
