1963 Topps Complete Set (576)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,500

15% Nr/Mt or better, 75% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, and 10% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). This is a very sharp-looking 1963 Topps set. The key card in the set, the #537 Pete Rose rookie card, is graded EX-MT+ 6.5 by PSA. Highlighted by the rookie cards of Rose and Willie Stargell, the 1963 Topps set includes many additional key star cards in the difficult high-number series, including Roberto Clemente and Duke Snider. Four cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #18 Buc Blasters (Ex), 25 Kaline (Nr/Mt), 115 Yastrzemski (Ex), 120 Maris (Ex+), 138 Mays/Musial (Ex-Mt), 173 Bombers' Best with Mantle (Ex), 200 Mantle (EX-MT 6), 210 Koufax (miscut, otherwise Ex-Mt), 242 Banks/Aaron (Nr/Mt), 247 Yankees Team (Ex+), 250 Musial (tiny spot of paper loss on back, otherwise Ex), 275 Mathews (Ex-Mt+), 300 Mays (Ex), 320 Spahn (Ex-Mt), 340 Berra (Ex-Mt), 345 B. Robinson (Vg-Ex), 360 Drysdale (Nr/Mt), 380 Banks (Ex), 390 Aaron (NM 7), 400 F. Robinson (Ex), 412 Dodgers’ Big Three with Koufax (Ex), 415 Gibson (Ex), 446 Ford (Ex), 472 Brock (Nr/Mt), 490 McCovey (Ex-Mt), 500 Killebrew SP (Ex), 537 Rose RC (EX-MT+ 6.5), 540 Clemente (NM 7), 550 Snider (Ex), and 553 Stargell RC (Ex-Mt). The flush-to-the-border design of this issue renders the cards very susceptible to corner and edge wear, making it all the rarer to find such a crisp, clean, sharp-looking complete set. Almost all of the lesser-graded cards present extremely well but have been downgraded due to centering issues or light corner wear against the colored borders, both very common flaws with this issue. The SMR value for just the four graded cards (factoring in the one half-grade at the lower whole-grade level and not including the additional 572 ungraded cards!) is $1,370. Total: 576 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,500
