1919 Chicago White Sox Pictorial Newspaper Page
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
This collection of newspaper pages, from what appears to be four incomplete issues of the Chicago Tribune's Sunday pictorial supplement spanning the years 1916 to 1919, is highlighted by an ideal-for-framing page featuring portrait images of twenty-nine members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, including all eight players who would later be banned for life for conspiring to throw the 1919 World Series: Joe Jackson, Chick Gandil, Buck Weaver, Swede Risberg, Hap Felsch, Eddie Cicotte, Lefty Williams, and Fred McMullin. Also pictured are manager Kid Gleason, Ray Schalk, Eddie Collins, and Red Faber. The remaining sports images featured in this collection are comprised of two separate pages picturing portrait images of the 1919 Chicago Cubs, including Grover Alexander and Fred Merkle, a page picturing full-length images of twelve members of the 1916 Chicago White Sox, including Lefty Williams, Fred McMullin, and Dave Danforth, and 1919 page picturing heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey. The remaining images in these pictorial pages are diverse, including many World War I photos, as well as both local and foreign scenes. Each of the pages (11.75 x 17.75 inches) displays minor toning, tiny string holes along the border from having once been bound, and small edge tears. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $420
