1887 N172 Old Judge Frank Hankinson Spotted Tie - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,100
Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA (submitted by REA). Highest-graded example by PSA! Extremely rare 1887 N172 Old Judge "Spotted Tie" of Frank Hankinson. The "Spotted Tie" series, featuring sixteen players from the New York Mets of the American Association, is one of the rarest and most desirable subsets of the N172 Old Judge set. Each player is featured in a portrait pose with his distinctive "Spotted Tie." Presented is an exceptionally strong example from this very rare series. Bright and clean, with excellent contrast, and light wear on the four square corners. A tiny surface wrinkle runs from the lower left edge to just over the “H” in his last name. The blank reverse is perfectly clean but has a small surface indentation near the lower left corner. This is a magnificent, and for this important issue, exceptional high-grade example from the "Spotted Tie" series, which has always been considered to be among the most elusive and significant of all Old Judge subsets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $5,100
