Autographed 1985-1995 Perez-Steele Great Moments Postcards Set (65 Signed Cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,800

Complete set of Perez-Steele Great Moments Postcards, including sixty-six signed examples. One of the most beautiful sets ever issued, Perez-Steele's Great Moments set began publication in 1985. The offering was limited to 5,000 numbered sets with periodical updates. The set is fashioned after the colorful T-3 Turkey Red cabinet cards of 1911 and salutes the defining moments in the careers of Baseball Hall of Famers. The complete set is comprised of 108 cards, which were issued in nine twelve-card series. The offered collection is complete with all 108 issued cards; however, it has been assembled from cards of variously numbered sets (i.e., 0830/5,000, 0932/5,000, 0902/5,000, etc.). Of the 108 cards in the set, only seventy could have possibly been signed (the other thirty-eight cards depict players who died prior to the set's issue).

The offered set features signed examples of sixty-five of the possible seventy cards, making it one of the most complete signed sets we have ever handled. The sixty-six signed cards in this set are Kaline, Ford, Aaron, Musial, T. Williams, Spahn, Koufax, Roberts, Mantle, Banks, McCovey, Mize, Reese, Irvin, Mathews, Slaughter, Gehringer, Snider, Dandridge, Hubbell, Doerr, Dickey, Stargell, B. Only missing signed examples of the following five card numbers for completion: 7 (Campanella), 51 (Bell), 68 (Sewell), 87 (Mickey, Willie & the Duke), and 98 (Ashburn). All of the signatures have been scripted in either blue or black Sharpie on the front and grade "9" or "10." The cards remain in Nr-Mt condition overall. As a point of reference, a complete Great Moments set, featuring sixty-six signed examples, appeared as Lot 893 in our October 2015 auction, where it sold for $3,300. Total 108 cards (65 signed). Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,800
