1972 Topps Venezuelan Stamps Near-Complete Set (240/242) with Nolan Ryan - Direct From Venezuela with Original Mailing Envelope!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,680

Presented is an incredible near-complete set of 1972 Topps Venezuelan Stamps, missing only two stamps for completion, that possesses a fascinating hobby-related provenance: This near-complete set has been consigned by legendary hobby icon Mike Aronstein, one of the great early promoters of the collecting field and founder of TCMA. (Interesting note: the name "TCMA" originally stood for the initials of founders "Tom Collier" and "Mike Aronstein.") Accompanying this set is the original envelope, postmarked November 1978, the date on which the set arrived to Mike, direct from Caracas, Venezuela! Mike just recently discovered this set among old papers relating to TCMA and correspondence with foreign collectors. The near-complete set consists of 240 different out of 242 in a complete set, missing only #87 Cardenal and 135 Marquez for completion, highlighted by twenty Hall of Famers, including the key to the set, Nolan Ryan. Each stamp is neatly mounted in the original album designed for the set. The album presents in Very Good condition, fully intact with bold colors, but would technically grade more modestly due to creasing and folding on the front and back covers. The interior pages display light fraying along the edges. The interior cards are bright and crisp, with an overall Excellent or better display value, although many would technically grade lesser due to light creasing. This is the first group of these rare stamps that we have ever offered, and it is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest and most complete set ever made available publicly. The incredible provenance makes this already tremendous offering all the more special. This is a beautiful near-complete set worthy of even the most advanced collection! Total: 240 stamps mounted in original album. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,680
