1955 Topps Complete Set (206) Including SGC EX/MT+ 82 Roberto Clemente Rookie

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,700

10% Nr/Mt, 29% Ex-Mt, 43% Ex, and 18% Vg-Ex (including some Vg or lesser). This is an extremely attractive mid- to high-grade complete set of the classic 1955 Topps issue, which appears even stronger than its technically accurate grading range and includes many particularly strong highlights, including an extremely strong example of key card #164 Roberto Clemente (SGC EX-MT+ 82). Highlighted by the rookie cards of Sandy Koufax, Harmon Killebrew, and Roberto Clemente, the 1955 Topps also includes many additional key star cards, including Ted Williams and Willie Mays. We have selected eight cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Rhodes (Ex), 2 Williams (VG/EX 50), 4 Kaline (EX+ 70), 19 Herman (Nr/Mt), 24 Newhouser (pencil mark on back, otherwise Ex+), 26 Groat (Nr/Mt), 28 Banks (Ex), 31 Spahn (Ex+), 47 Aaron (EX 60), 50 Robinson (Vg), 70 Rosen (Ex), 92 Zimmer RC (trimmed, otherwise Vg), 100 Irvin (Ex-Mt), 120 Kluszewski (Vg-Ex), 123 Koufax RC (EX 60), 124 Killebrew RC (EX+ 70), 125 Boyer (Vg-Ex+), 152 Agganis RC (Ex+), 155 Mathews (EX/MT+ 82), 164 Clemente RC (EX/MT+ 82), 187 Hodges (Ex-Mt), 189 Rizzuto (Ex), 194 Mays (EX 60), 198 Berra (Vg-Ex), and 210 Snider (Vg). This is a very strong set, crisp and sharp throughout, with bright, bold colors. This set was built many years ago when there was less of an emphasis on centering than there was on sharp corners. Stunning complete sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. The equivalent SMR value for just the seven of the eight graded cards (excluding the VG/EX Williams and factoring the four half-grades in at the lower whole-grade level and not including the remaining extremely impressive 198 ungraded cards!) is $4,110. Total: 206 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $5,700
