1962 Jell-O Near-Complete Set (188/197)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,900

Near-complete set of 1962 Jell-O baseball cards, consisting of 188 out of 197 different cards. Complete Jell-O sets have always been particularly difficult to assemble, even when they were issued in the early 1960s! These cards were issued only one card per Jell-O box. In addition, the set includes numerous rarities because some cards were issued only with certain very unpopular flavors. This near-complete set is missing only nine cards for completion: #1, 13, 69, 112, 115, 156, 167, 179, and 180. Condition: 20% grade from Vg-Ex to Ex, 37% Vg, and 43% grade lesser due to creasing or writing on the reverse. The preceding grades, as well as those in the composite below, are without respect to the neatness of the cut as almost all the cards are cut inside of the borders and would only qualify for "Authentic" if submitted for professional grading. Keys: #2 Richardson (Pr), 5 Mantle (Gd), 6 Maris (Pr), 7 Berra (Vg-Ex), 20 Kaline (Vg), 56 Schilling (Vg), 61 Yastrzemski (Ex), 85 Killebrew (Fr), 87 Green (Vg), 101 Hodges (Gd), 109 Koufax (Fr), 110 Drysdale (Vg), 111 Sherry (Vg), 114 Snider (Vg+), 116 Coleman (Pr), 142 Mays (Gd+), 147 Mathews (Vg), 158 White (Vg+), 159 Boyer (Gd), 162 Sawatski (Vg-Ex), and 173 Clemente (Vg). A relatively affordable near-complete set of this very scarce and very underrated early 1960s food issue. Total: 188 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,900
