1887 N172 Old Judge Ned Hanlon
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840
Very striking 1887 N172 Old Judge example of Hall of Famer Ned Hanlon (pose #212-2) with an elaborate studio background. Hanlon was a Major League ballplayer with six different teams from 1880 to 1892. He was a consistent player, accumulating over 1,300 hits during his career, but he is best known for his success as manager. Hanlon was the manager of the Baltimore Orioles from 1892 to 1898, a span which witnessed the club capturing three pennants and two World Championships. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996. Graded VG 3 (MK) by PSA, the offered card has a clean surface and light wear to the corners. The photo contrast is a little light in some areas, but many of the photo's most important qualities are still easy to see. The blank reverse bears an ink stamp, which accounts for the qualifier, and has a light horizontal crease that does not break through to the front. This is an attractive example of a particularly difficult-to-find Old Judge Hall of Famer. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $840
