Two 1929 H572 Stevens-Davis "Men of America" Complete Sets (104 Booklets)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $600

Pair of complete 52-card sets of 1929 H572 Stevens-Davis "Men of America" booklets plus an original display box. Produced in 1929 by the Stevens-Davis Company of Chicago, these booklets were distributed weekly to the companies’ employees to be used as a motivational tool to help inspire the workers to strive for excellence. Each booklet (2.5 x 4.25 inches) features an image of a legendary American on the front with a biography presented on the interior pages. Includes booklets of Edison, T. Roosevelt, Will Rogers, Orville Wright, Coolidge, Firestone, Ford, Judge Landis (baseball), Lindbergh, Washington, Franklin, and Lincoln. For sports collectors, in addition to the Landis booklet, another key sports-related booklet in the set is #35, entitled "American Athletes," featuring golf legend Bobby Jones on the front cover and baseball Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby on the reverse. Overall condition of the two 52-booklet sets is Vg to Vg-Ex (with six booklets grading higher and four lower). Each of these scarce eight-page booklets with colorful covers is very attractive despite the overall modest assigned grades. "Men of America" booklets are rarely offered in complete set form, and are highly prized by historical collectors, miniature book collectors, and prewar nonsport-card collectors. The original box is also a very substantial accompaniment. It is designed as a quality hard-cover book, ideal for library display, that opens to reveal a secret storage compartment for the set. Total: 2 sets, 104 booklets plus original box. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $600
