1910-1912 Plow Boy Tobacco Jim Scott
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080
Exceptional sample card of Jim Scott from this unusual sepia-toned 1910 cabinet-card issue which features Cubs and White Sox players, issued by the Spaulding & Merrick Tobacco Company to promote its Plow Boy Tobacco brand. Their rarity is related to the fact that they were issued only in the Chicago area. Plow Boy Tobacco cards measure 5-3/4 x 8 inches. They are easily one of the rarest of all twentieth-century tobacco issues, and of additional note, these cards show players in poses that are unique to this set. Plow Boy Tobacco cards were issued with two different advertising reverses, one with a simple advertisement and another containing the same advertisement along with a checklist of premiums available. The offered example features the advertising reverse without premium checklist. The card displays a crisp image, with moderate toning around the edges and even wear to the corners. A faint wet-sheet transfer is visible in the background. Boldly printed reverse. Very Good condition overall. A superb example worthy of even the most advanced sample or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,080
