1890 K7 Arbuckle Coffee "Illustrated Jokes" Complete Set Minus 1 (99/100)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $600

Presented is a near-complete set of postcard-size cards from the "Illustrated Jokes" series produced by Arbuckle Coffee. Missing only #100 for completion. The colorful set features social commentary from the pages of Puck, Judge, and Texas Siftings magazines used by Arbuckle to promote its brand of coffee. Many of the illustrations would unquestionably be considered politically incorrect and racially insensitive by today's standards. The entire near-complete set presents as Vg to Ex overall when viewed from the front, with bright colors and crisp images, but would ultimately grade more modestly due to a variety of condition flaws affecting the reverses, including pencil, small spots of paper loss, or album residue, all of which are very common to nineteenth-century cards. This is a very attractive near-complete set of this fascinating nineteenth-century issue. Total: 99 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $600
