1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Victor Willis PSA EX+ 5.5 with Original Glassine Envelope
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $9,000
Graded EX+ 5.5 by PSA (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example ever graded (at any level) by PSA! Magnificent high-grade example of Hall of Famer Victor Willis in uniform from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set, issued in 1903. This is an extremely impressive high grade for any W600 Sporting Life cabinet card, let alone for a significant Hall of Famer such as Vic Willis. Two variations of Willis (both in uniform) were issued in W600: one with a Boston team designation (1903) and one with a Pittsburgh team designation (1906). The offered example is the earlier "Boston" variation. Extremely bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back, with perfect centering and strong square corners with just a slight hint of wear. No creases. This card really couldn't be much better. Its incredible condition is no accident: this card was consigned to REA in its original glassine envelope, which helped preserve it for more than one hundred years and accompanies the graded card. W600 Sporting Life cabinet cards were available only by mail. They are universally recognized as among the most substantial and highest-quality baseball-card sets ever issued. This is an outstanding ultra high-grade example of one of Vic Willis' most majestic cards, and one that would be a significant addition to any world-class W600, Hall of Fame, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $9,000
