1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Otis Crandall with Original Glassine Envelope
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,800
Superb example of New York Giants pitcher Otis Crandall from the very popular W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set, issued in 1910. Extremely bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back, with perfect centering and strong corners (slightly more wear in the lower right). Bright and clean reverse, with the original Sporting Life stamp present. The stamp reads "Duplicates of the phototype can be obtained from SPORTING LIFE, Philadelphia, PA. for 10 cents each. A full list of photos of other base ball players can be found in the current issue of SPORTING LIFE, on sale at all news-stands." Overall Excellent condition. The card's incredible condition is no accident: this card was consigned to REA in its original glassine envelope, which helped preserve it for more than one hundred years and accompanies the card. W600 Sporting Life cabinet cards were available only by mail. They are universally recognized as among the most substantial and highest-quality baseball-card sets ever issued. This is an outstanding sample that would be a significant addition to any W600 or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,800
