1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie BVG NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $10,000, Sold For - $30,000

Graded NM-MT 8 by BVG. Extremely attractive high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. Purchased by our consignor many years ago already graded, this card is being sold here exactly as consigned to us. While we do not believe this card would receive the same grade of NM-MT 8 from either PSA or SGC, it does present exceptionally well, with bright colors, a flawless image, four strong corners, and centering slightly to the right. It is also free of any distracting print lines and registration issues that so often plague this card. The back is also particularly clean, with no wax wrapper or gum stains, which are often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. In our opinion, we grade the card Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt. This is an oustanding example of one of collecting's most famous cards and is an ideal example for the collector who is not interested in spending the many tens of thousands of dollars an example in true Near Mint to Mint might run. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $30,000
