High-Grade 1906 Fan Craze National League Playing Card PSA-Graded Collection (25) Including McGinnity and McGraw
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,000
Presented is an exceptionally crisp ultra high-grade collection of twenty-five Fan Craze National League cards, highlighted by Hall of Famers John McGraw and Joe McGinnity. This classic set features what many collectors consider the finest portrait poses of turn-of-the-century ballplayers ever produced on baseball cards. Issued in 1906 by the Fan Craze Company of Cincinnati, these cards were designed as a deck of baseball-game playing cards. The Fan Craze set has a special significance to collectors, as it is one of the few sets issued in the earliest years of the twentieth century, and includes many players who appear in no other card sets. Because of its year of issue, it is also one of the few sets which include a blend of 1910-era stars along with players who made their mark in the nineteenth century, and who in 1906 were just winding down their playing careers. PSA Grading Composite: Ten MINT 9: Dahlen, Lumley, Lundgren, McGann, McGinnity (HOF), Pittinger, Pulliam, Sheckard, Tenny, and Wiltse. Five NM-MT+ 8.5: Fraser, McGraw (HOF), Seymour, Theilman, and Wicker. Eight NM-MT 8: Casey, Dunleavy, Ewing, Leach, Overall, Taylor, Thomas, and Header Card. Two NM 7: Ames and Pfeffer. Each card is crisp and clean, entirely deserving of its high grade. Representing just under half of a complete set, this collection would be a worthy addition to any Fan Craze set or prewar-card collection. The total SMR value in the assigned grades (factoring in the five half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and excluding the Header Card) is $5,075. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,000
