1909-1911 T206 White Border PSA- and SGC-Graded Sweet Caporal Factory 649 Overprint Complete Subset (34) Including 7 Hall of Famers

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,280

Extraordinary complete set of all thirty-four T206 White Border subjects found with the Sweet Caporal Factory 649 overprint, highlighted by seven Hall of Famers, including Nap Lajoie, Walter Johnson, and Christy Mathewson. Each card is professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC except for nine PSA and two GAI. The Factory 649 overprint only appears on Sweet Caporal 150 series advertising backs. A bold red line is printed over the original factory line, and a new "Factory No. 649 1st Dist. N.Y." is added directly above. Of the nine different Sweet Caporal advertising-back variations known to exist within the T206 White Border set, the Factory 649 is the third rarest according to T206Resource.com. SGC Grading Composite: EX+ 70 (1 card): Gilbert. EX 60 (1 card): Bresnahan/portrait (HOF, PSA EX 5). VG/EX+ 55 (2 cards): Bates (GAI VG-EX+ 4.5) and Wagner/bat on left shoulder (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5). VG/EX 50 (4 cards): Griffith/portrait (HOF, PSA VG-EX 4), Marquard/hands at thighs (HOF, PSA VG-EX 4), O’Leary/portrait (PSA VG-EX 4), and J.J. Clarke. VG+ 45 (3 cards): Ewing, McQuillan/ball in hand, and Owen. VG 40 (5 cards): Johnson/portrait (HOF, PSA VG 3 [MK]), Pastorius, Schlei/catching, Schmidt/throwing, and Wilhelm/hands at chest. GOOD+ 35 (4 cards): Killian/pitching, Liebhardt (GAI G-VG 2.5), McIntyre/Brooklyn, and Sheckard/no glove showing (PSA GOOD+ 2.5). GOOD 30 (9 cards): Alperman (PSA GOOD 2), Bransfield (PSA GOOD 2), G. Davis (HOF), Goode, T. Jones, Manning/batting, Mathewson/white cap (HOF), Powers, and Ritchey. FAIR 20 (5 cards): Davis/H. Davis on front, J. Delehanty, Lajoie/throwing (HOF), Lake/New York, and Spencer. This is an outstanding complete advertising-back collection, the result of many years of dedicated collecting by our consignor. Some of these examples are particularly difficult to find with this advertising back. The matched assembly is especially impressive and will be of great interest to advanced T206 collectors. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grades (factoring in the fifteen half-grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $2,536. This does not begin to account for the time and enormous effort invested in assembling this complete set. Total: 34 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,280
