1909-1911 T206 White Border PSA- and SGC-Graded Southern Leaguers Collection (34) - Complete Brown Hindu Back Subset!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,400

Presented is a remarkable assembly of thirty-four subjects from the desirable T206 White Border Southern Leaguer subset, each with a desirable Brown Hindu advertising reverse. These thirty-four cards represent all the Southern Leaguers that exist with Brown Hindu advertisements. (All forty-eight Southern Leaguers can be found with Piedmont or Old Mill backs, while fourteen do not exist with Brown Hindu backs.) Brown Hindu is a very scarce back, not as rare as Red Hindu, but very unusual and extremely rare compared to most other T206 advertising backs. All thirty-four cards are professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for seven PSA, one GAI, and one BVG). The Southern Leaguers have always been appreciated for their scarcity and as a popular subset to the T206 series. They have also always been listed at a significant premium in relation to regular cards in the set. SGC Grading Composite: EX 60 (1 card): Coles – Augusta. VG/EX+ 4.5 (1 card): Bernhard – Nashville. VG 40 (5 cards): Bay – Nashville, Greminger - Montgomery (GAI VG 3), Kiernan – Columbia (PSA VG 3 [MK]), Lipe – Richmond, and Perdue – Nashville. GOOD 30 (7 cards): Carey – Memphis (PSA GOOD 2), Fritz – New Orleans (PSA GOOD 2), Guiheen – Portsmouth (PSA GOOD 2), D. Jordan – Atlanta, Manion – Columbia, Revelle – Richmond, and S. Smith – Atlanta (PSA GOOD 2). FAIR 20 (10 cards): Breitenstein – New Orleans, Cranston – Memphis, Ellam – Nashville, Foster – Charleston, Helm – Columbus, Hickman – Mobile, McCauley – Portsmouth, Reagan – New Orleans, Thornton – Mobile, and Violat – Jacksonville. POOR 10 (10 cards): Hooker – Lynchburg, E. Howard – Savannah, Lafitte – Macon, Molesworth – Birmingham, Mullaney – Jacksonville (PSA POOR 1), Otey – Norfolk (BVG POOR 1), Paige – Charleston, Persons – Montgomery, Shaughnessy – Roanoke (PSA PR-FR 1), and Ryan – Roanoke. The scarcity of the Southern Leaguers has always made putting together a complete T206 set particularly difficult. The matched-brand assembly, with all thirty-four cards bearing Brown Hindu advertising, is especially impressive and will be of great interest to advanced T206 collectors. Total: 34 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $8,400
