1911 T5 Pinkerton Tobacco Cabinet Collection (13)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,800

Tremendous collection of thirteen different cards from the T5 Pinkerton cabinet-card set. T5s are one of the rarest sets from the 1910 era, and have always been highly prized by serious collectors. Each cabinet can be found in two distinct styles: on a thick cabinet-card mount, measuring approximately 4.5 x 7.75 inches, with an embossed decorative imprint surrounding the photo or on a thin paper mount, measuring approximately 5 x 7.5 inches, without any imprint. Nine of the cabinets offered within this collection are on the more desirable and higher quality cabinet-card mounts, while four cards (#355, 460, 461, and 918) are on the paper mounts. Because we have seen so many T5 Pinkertons on thin mounts like this over the years, we believe they are original mounts, though we have no evidence to support this. It has long been speculated that these simple lower-quality mounts were used by Pinkerton when they ran out of the higher-quality thick mounts with embossed borders. This collection consists of the following: #211 Kling (Chicago Cubs), 355 Hauser (St. Louis Cardinals), 360 Konetchy (St. Louis Cardinals), 407 Rowan (Cincinnati Reds), 460 Daubert (Brooklyn Dodgers), 461 Scanlan (Brooklyn Dodgers), 502 Coombs (Philadelphia Athletics), 508 McInnis (Philadelphia Athletics), 514 Davis (Philadelphia Athletics), 516 Lapp (Philadelphia Athletics), 517 Morgan (Philadelphia Athletics), 918 George (Indianapolis), and 1104 H. Hinchman (Toledo). This is an extremely striking and impressive collection of cards. Bright, fresh, and clean throughout, averaging Ex to Ex-Mt overall, with a few technically lesser due to light creases on the mounted photograph. This is a very large group of rare T5 Pinkerton Tobacco cabinets that would be a significant addition to any extremely advanced tobacco or prewar-card collection. Total: 13 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+++. SOLD FOR $4,800
