1911 T5 Pinkerton Cabinet #1113 Joe McCarthy
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,000
Tremendous example of Hall of Famer Joe McCarthy in a throwing pose from the T5 Pinkerton cabinet-card set. This card is one of the two earliest cards ever issued of the future Hall of Fame manager and of course, as can be seen, dates to his days as a player. (The only other early card of Joe McCarthy as a player that we know of is the 1909-1911 Colgan's Chip disc, which also features him with Toledo.) T5s are one of the rarest sets from the 1910 era, and have always been highly prized by serious collectors. This is a striking and impressive card of McCarthy. Bright, fresh, and clean, both front and back. The photograph of McCarthy is mounted along the top edge as issued. T5 Pinkertons are found with two different mount styles: a thick cabinet-card mount with a surrounding embossed decorative imprint and a thin paper mount. The offered example is on the more desirable, higher-quality thick mount. Excellent to Mint condition. A significant addition to any advanced Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,000
