1911 T5 Pinkerton Cabinet #602 Addie Joss
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,800
Tremendous example of Cleveland Naps Hall of Famer Addie Joss in a pitching pose from the T5 Pinkerton cabinet-card set. T5s are one of the rarest sets from the 1910 era, and have always been highly prized by serious collectors. This is a striking and impressive card of Joss. Bright, fresh, and clean, both front and back. The photograph of Joss is mounted along the top edge as issued. Light horizontal wrinkling is present near the extreme top edge (visible only under close inspection) but does nothing to detract from the overall Ex-Mt appearance. T5 Pinkertons are found with two different mount styles: a thick cabinet-card mount and a thin paper mount. The offered example is on a thin paper mount. Because we have seen so many T5 Pinkertons on thin mounts like this over the years, we believe they are original mounts, though we have no evidence to support this. It has long been speculated that these simple lower-quality mounts were used by Pinkerton when it ran out of the higher-quality thick mounts with embossed borders. Addie Joss is a particularly important Hall of Famer with few cards issued due to his tragically passing away from meningitis on April 14, 1911, cutting short one of baseball's greatest careers. A significant addition to any Addie Joss, Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,800
