1909-1911 T206 White Border Southern Leaguer SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (45/48)
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,600
Presented is a near-complete set of forty-five different T206 Southern Leaguers (out of the forty-eight cards which comprise the entire “Southern League” subset), each graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for three PSA as noted). All cards were submitted by REA except for the three PSA-graded examples. Missing only Carey, Howard, and Paige for completion. Twenty-four cards have Old Mill advertising backs (noted below); the balance feature Piedmont backs. SGC Grading Composite: EX 60 (7 cards): Fritz, J. Hart, Helm (Old Mill), King, Persons (Old Mill), Rockenfield (Old Mill), and Thebo (Old Mill). VG/EX+ 55 (6 cards): Lipe, Molesworth (Old Mill), Perdue (Old Mill), Reagan (Old Mill), Thornton, and Violat. VG/EX 50 (7 cards): Bastian, Coles (Old Mill, PSA), Manion (Old Mill), Orth (Old Mill), Otey (Old Mill, PSA), C. Smith, and F. White (Old Mill). VG+ 45 (3 cards): Cranston (Old Mill), Hooker (Old Mill), and Mullaney. VG 40 (6 cards): D. Jordan (Old Mill), Lentz (Old Mill), McCauley (Old Mill), M. Miller, Revelle, and Westlake (Old Mill, PSA). GOOD+ 35 (2 cards): Bay and Greminger (Old Mill). GOOD 30 (7 cards): Ellam, Foster, B. Hart, Ryan, Seitz, Shaughnessy, and S. Smith. FAIR 20 (3 cards): Guiheen (Old Mill), Hickman, and Stark. POOR 10 (2 cards): Breitenstein (Old Mill) and Lafitte (Old Mill). Authentic (2 cards): Bernhard (Old Mill) and Kiernan (Old Mill). Every card in this collection is extremely attractive, and even the lesser-graded examples present at a level far superior to their assigned grades. The Southern Leaguers have always been appreciated for their scarcity and as a popular subset to the T206 series. Collectors find it particularly challenging to assemble a complete set. This is a very impressive looking group in very desirable grades. The equivalent SMR value for forty-three of the cards (not including the two cards encapsulated "Authentic" and factoring in the fourteen half grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $7,180. Total: 45 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,600
