1910 PC796 Sepia Ty Cobb Postcard

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,500

Graded VG 40 by SGC (submited by REA). Extraordinary example of one of Ty Cobb's most striking and attractive cards, from the very rare and highly regarded PC796 sepia postcard set, issued in 1910. It is interesting to note that the image of Cobb used on this card is the same image used on the PC805 Novelty Cutlery postcard series (an example of which is also offered in this auction). This has always been one of our favorite Ty Cobb cards. This example has never been mailed and has no writing on the postcard reverse. At first glance, the card appears Ex to Ex-Mt, with a striking image of Cobb, centering slightly to the top, and four strong corners. Close inspection reveals a tiny wrinkle on the top border (just to the left of "Cobb") along with a very faint surface crease on the right border (most visible from the reverse). This is a stunning example of one of the most visually impressive and rarest of all Ty Cobb cards from the 1910 era. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,500
