1914 E145 Cracker Jack #57 Walter Johnson
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $3,000
Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. The 1914 Cracker Jack is understandably one of Walter Johnson's most desirable and popular cards. Do not be fooled by the modest assigned grade! The 1914 Cracker Jacks are far rarer to find in high grade than their 1915 counterparts, because the 1914 #144 series cards were only issued in boxes of Cracker Jack (and therefore almost always have condition problems, including caramel staining). Johnson, of course, is one of the significant key cards in the set, along with Cobb, Jackson, Wagner, and Mathewson. This is particularly strong card in all respects. The card displays outstanding color, perfect registration, an extremely bold red background, and light, even wear to the four corners. It is almost entirely free of caramel staining, which so often plagues 1914 Cracker Jacks. This card has been downgraded due to a tiny tear in the top border, visible only under close inspection. The card has an appearance much stronger than suggested by its technically accurate grade, and would be a highlight addition to any collection of Cracker Jack, Walter Johnson, or vintage Hall of Fame cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,000
