Circa 1912 Pirate Cigarettes Box - Related to the T215 Pirate Set!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $300
Presented is an original box of Pirate Cigarettes produced by W. D. & H. O. Wills. The reverse of all Pirate Cigarette cards (baseball and nonsport issues) feature the image of a Pirate Cigarettes box in some fashion. The front of the box features a single pirate in full-length pose onboard a ship while the back has two scenes framing an advertisement for Pirate Cigarettes. This example has been encapsulated and graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by GAI and retains all of its original colors and crisp imagery. It displays light handling wear (slightly more in the lower left) along with scattered tobacco staining on front and back. beautifully preserved over the years, presenting as extremely clean with bright colors and only minor wear from handling. Fortunately this auction includes an almost unheard of sample of a T215 Pirates Cigarettes baseball card, one of the hobby's most legendary tobacco-card rarities. We can't state with any certainty that this box ever contained a baseball card simply because the Pirate Cigarettes baseball cards are so incredibly rare and the company also issued nonsport insert cards, but it is a very desirable box that is of the same style as that pictured on the reverse of the baseball cards. This is an attractive box of Pirate Cigarettes, among the most visually appealing of the era, which would make an outstanding addition to any tobacco-packaging collection or a fantastic companion piece to the T215 Pirate tobacco card offered in this auction. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $300
