1963 Fleer Complete Set (66) Plus 125 Duplicates
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,800
Presented is a sizable collection of 191 cards from the 1963 Fleer series, comprised of a complete 66-card set (no checklist) plus 125 duplicates, including twenty-seven Hall of Famers. The 1963 Fleer set is considered by many to be among the most attractive and significant issues of the early 1960s. These cards have long been a special favorite of collectors, and with good reason: They are far rarer than Topps issues from the era; they are unusual; they have a great significance to the history of the "bubble-gum card wars"; and the set is relatively small and includes so many great stars from the golden era of the early 1960s. The fact that this set is very challenging to collect in high grade gives it a mystique and all-the-greater appeal to serious collectors. 1963 Fleer are never going out of style with advanced collectors. This is one of the premier sets of the 1960s. 1) Complete Set (66 cards): No checklist. Condition is 24% Nr/Mt (including a few better), 60% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 16% Vg to Vg-Ex. Keys: #4 B. Robinson (Nr/Mt-Mt), 5 Mays (85/15 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), 8 Yastrzemski (20/80 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt+), 32 Santo (Ex-Mt), 41 Drysdale (Nr/Mt), 42 Koufax (Ex+), 43 Wills RC (Ex-Mt+), 45 Spahn (Ex), 46 Adcock SP (Ex), 56 Clemente (Ex+), 59 Mazeroski (Nr/Mt), 61 Gibson (Vg-Ex), and 64 Cepeda (Ex). 2) Duplicates (125 cards): Condition is 22% Nr/Mt, 56% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 22% Vg to Vg-Ex (including six lower). Keys: Three #4 B. Robinson (Vg+, next card shows, otherwise Ex-Mt, and pencil mark on back, otherwise Vg-Ex+), five 5 Mays (Ex, Vg-Ex+, Vg-Ex, Gd, and next card shows, otherwise Nr/Mt), three 8 Yastrzemski (Ex-Mt, Ex+, and Ex), two 32 Santo (Nr/Mt and Ex), three Drysdale (Nr/Mt and two Ex-Mt), two 42 Koufax (Ex-Mt and Ex), five 43 Wills RC (Nr/Mt, Ex-Mt+, Ex, and two Vg-Ex), two 45 Spahn (both Ex), three Adcock SP (Ex-Mt+, Ex, and Gd), two 56 Clemente (Vg+ and mark on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), 59 Mazeroski (Ex), three 61 Gibson (Ex, Gd, and 10/90 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex+), and 64 Cepeda (Nr/Mt).
