1910 D322 Tip Top Bread Fred Clarke
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,200
Graded EX 5 by PSA. One of only two examples graded at this level by PSA, with only one card graded higher (EX-MT 6). Remarkably high grade and extremely attractive example of Hall of Famer Fred Clarke from the 25-card 1910 D322 Tip Top Bread set issued by the Ward-Mackey Company. This very scarce set was regionally issued in the Pittsburgh area, and features only members of the Pirates, the National League champions of the previous year. This is one of Fred Clarke's rarest and most noteworthy cards. The reverse has advertising for Tip Top Bread, and provides a complete checklist for the set. The card is very bright and clean, front and back, with a little corner wear, no creases, and is very well centered. Upon close inspection there is a touch of paper loss on the reverse affecting the "5" number in "25 Most Prominent Members." This is a beautiful (and for this set very high grade) example of this card, which is one of the key cards to the D322 Tip Top Bread set (one of only three Hall of Famers, the others being executive Barney Dreyfuss and Honus Wagner) and one of the scarcest and most attractive of all Fred Clarke cards.
