1913 T200 Fatima Team Complete Set (16)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,600
Fatima Cigarettes is responsible for one of the most unusual and distinctive of all tobacco-card issues: T200 Fatima team cards. From an old-time collection, presented is a complete set of all sixteen Fatima team cards. (Our consignor purchased this set complete in 1970!) T200 Fatima team cards are rarely offered in complete-set form (and much less often than collectors realize, in part because several teams are rare, which makes complete sets very difficult to assemble). In fact, this is only the seventh complete set, in any condition, we have ever offered. The thin stock and fragile real-photo surface of T200 Fatimas makes them very susceptible to light creasing. Many collectors consider T200 (and the similarly designed T222 individual-player cards) the single most condition-sensitive sets in all of vintage-card collecting. Two cards grade Vg-Ex, six cards grade Gd/Vg, and eight cards display tack holes in two corners (presumably from past display) and would technically grade modestly despite an overall appearance of Vg to Vg-Ex in all but two cases. The offered set is extremely pleasing despite the presence of normal minor flaws common to these cards, such as light creasing and minor edge chipping. The images on all sixteen cards are bright and crisp. T200 Fatimas is a set which is not practical to collect in Mint condition. In fact, nearly seventy-five percent of the entire PSA- and SGC-graded population ranges in grade from Poor to Very Good. This is an outstanding set that would be a tremendous addition to any collection. The fact that the team cards in the set include literally dozens of Hall of Famers and stars, all individually identified (everyone from Honus Wagner to Joe Jackson to Walter Johnson; the list is almost endless...) naturally gives the set all the greater appeal. The T200 Fatima team set is just beginning to be appreciated for its combination of rarity, unusual design, photographic quality, and the exceptional value it represents compared to other far more common tobacco-card issues of the era. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,600
