1910 P13 Luxello Cigar Pin - Eddie Plank
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,680
This striking advertising pin, issued by Luxello Cigar in 1910, features a portrait image of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics. Plank is identified by name below his image, as is his team affiliation and position. "Luxello Cigar" is lettered at the top. Manufactured by the Parisian Novelty Company of Chicago, as noted on the edge of the pin. Luxello Cigar pins were a regional issue and included only Philadelphia Athletic and Philadelphia Phillies players. Twenty-one different players are currently known to exist. Plank is one of only three Hall of Fame players represented in this rare set (along with Frank Baker and Eddie Collins). This is the first Plank example we have ever offered! The pin (.875 inches in diameter) has normal oxidation to the reverse and is otherwise in Near Mint condition with perfect contrast. This is an extraordinary rarity! (and one that is, ironically, many times scarcer than the famous and enormously valuable T206 Eddie Plank tobacco card rarity). From the Dan Gantt Collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
