1910 M116, W600, and W601 Sporting Life Advertising Display

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Presented is a rare and magnificent advertising display/flyer promoting Sporting Life cards and premiums issued by the publication in 1910. One side of the display features illustrations of fourteen cards from the M116 Sporting Life card series and provides both a checklist of the 288 cards available and instructions on how to order cards by mail. Players pictured include Hall of Famers Frank Chance, Mordecai Brown, Eddie Collins, Chief Bender, Ty Cobb, Nap Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, Hugh Jennings, and Honus Wagner. The reverse feature advertisements, checklists, and ordering instructions for two additional related Sporting Life sets: the W600 cabinet-card series (illustrated with W600 cabinet cards of Wagner, Mathewson, Young, and Lajoie) and the W601 Sporting Life team composite series (illustrated with an example of the 1910 Philadelphia Athletics team composite). The display is printed in black and white on high-quality stock and measures approximately 10.5 x 15 inches. It presents as Excellent, though it was at one time folded in quarters (perhaps as intended for easy shipment), and several light folds and wrinkles are visible as a result. There is no excessive wear at the corners or tears to the edges. A small area of discoloration is present near the image of Bender's M116, which does not detract from the overall display value and is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy. Advertising items relating to card sets from the 1910 era are extremely rare. This is a tremendous and extremely ideal-for-display promotional advertising piece featuring three of the 1910 era's most popular sets.
